UMUCU offer full support to the University of Manchester Students’ Union for the action taken by your officers in painting over the “If” poem by Rudyard Kipling and replacing it with “Still I rise” by Maya Angelou. We believe the Students’ Union officers should have been consulted over the choice of poem, and that any such public display of poetry should be sensitive to Equality and Diversity Issues and be reflective of our diverse student body.
